What If I'm Still Not Sure?

Seven days ago, we started with a question.

Does God actually know me?

Since then, we've explored who Jesus is, why we're here, forgiveness, and what following Him means.

But maybe you've made it this far and you're thinking:

Okay, but what if I'm still not sure what I believe?

Fair question.

And here's something interesting.

You're not the first person to have questions about Jesus.

Not even close.

In fact, one of Jesus' own disciples struggled with doubt.

Let's talk about him.

Today's Reading

John 20

Read the entire chapter.

If you have a physical Bible, I recommend using it. It's easier to focus without notifications and other distractions. If you don't have one nearby, no worries. Use the link below.

Read John 20 (NLT) →

As you're reading, pay attention to how Jesus responds to people who are confused, afraid, or struggling to believe.

Let's Talk About It

All right, so you just read John 20.

And there's a lot happening.

Jesus has been crucified, and His followers believe He's dead.

But when Mary Magdalene visits His tomb, something unexpected happens.

The tomb is empty.

Mary eventually encounters Jesus alive.

Later, Jesus appears to His disciples.

But one disciple isn't there.

His name is Thomas.

When the others tell Thomas they've seen Jesus, he doesn't immediately believe them.

He wants evidence.

Specifically, he wants to see and touch the wounds from Jesus' crucifixion.

And honestly?

Can you blame him for wanting to understand what happened?

Eight days later, Jesus appears again.

This time, Thomas is there.

And here's what I find interesting.

Jesus doesn't ignore Thomas's doubts.

He invites Thomas to examine the evidence he had asked for.

Thomas responds by calling Jesus his Lord and his God.

Then Jesus talks about people who will believe without seeing Him in person.

Now, that doesn't mean you should believe everything somebody tells you.

And it doesn't mean every question will have an easy answer.

But there's something important here.

Thomas's doubts weren't the end of his story.

He encountered something that challenged what he believed.

And he had to decide how to respond.

At the end of John 20, the author explains why he recorded these events.

He wants readers to consider who Jesus is and believe in Him.

So after seven days, here's the question I want to leave you with.

What do you think about Jesus?

Not what your parents believe.

Not what your friends believe.

What do you think?

Because that's a question worth exploring for yourself.

Think About It

After reading these seven chapters, what's one thing you've learned about God or Jesus?

What's one question you still have?

And here's the bigger question:

Are you willing to keep exploring, even if you don't have everything figured out yet?

Today's Challenge

Here's your final challenge.

Write down one question you still have about God, Jesus, or the Bible.

It can be anything.

Then take one step toward exploring it.

Maybe that means rereading a chapter.

Talking with someone you trust who knows the Bible.

Or finding another passage that addresses your question.

Whatever you choose, don't stop asking questions.

And if you're willing, try praying:

God, I've spent these seven days learning about You, but I know there's still a lot I don't understand. Help me recognize what's true, ask honest questions, and keep an open mind as I learn more about Jesus. Amen.

Before You Go

Seven days. Seven chapters.

You did it!

But here's something I want you to understand.

Getting to know God isn't supposed to end after seven days.

This was just a starting point.

Maybe you're beginning to believe.

Maybe you're still unsure.

Maybe you've got more questions now than when you started.

Whatever the case, you have a choice about what happens next.

You can keep reading.

Keep learning.

Keep asking questions.

And keep examining what Jesus actually taught.

If you're wondering where to go next, I'd encourage you to read the entire Gospel of John.

You've already read a few chapters from it.

Now discover the rest of the story.

And remember:

Don't just believe something because somebody told you to. Take the time to understand what you believe and why.

That's a pretty important part of making wise choices.
